In the days before The Scourge, the Theran Empire controlled most of Barsaive, both due to their unmatched military power and to the much-needed magic wards to protect the Kaers against the Horrors, which only Thera knew how to make and exchanged by allegiance and trade treaties.

After the opening of Throal, the great dwarven kingdom saw an opportunity to unite the nations of Barsaive in resistance to Theran domination. Many battles were fought and losses took place everywhere. Troubadours and historians alike strived to keep track of the heroes of those days, turning them into the legends upon which the New Barsaive was built.
